Red Arrows to lead East Sussex airshow

The Red Arrows will lead an East Sussex airshow, it has been announced.

The Royal Air Force aerobatics display team is set to fly on every day of the Eastbourne International Airshow, which runs 14 to 17 August.

"This is great news for residents, visitors and local businesses alike," said Eastbourne Borough councillor Margaret Bannister, calling the Red Arrows a "world-renowned spectacle."

But she warned the local authority needed to raise funds to support the displays and ensure the event could continue.

This year's "Airbourne" will coincide with the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, which marks the end of World War Two with the defeat of Japan.

A Battle of Britain Memorial flight, involving Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane planes, and fly-bys by Tutor and Typhoons are due at the show.

A married wingwalking team from Switzerland called 46 Aviation is also set to perform on all four days, along with the Red Arrows, who did not attend last year due to overseas commitments.

Organisers said more displays will be announced in the coming weeks.
