A man who killed a grandmother in a crash has been banned from driving for two years and given a suspended jail term.

Linda Boore, 75, and her husband were driving home to Nottingham from a wedding reception when the crash happened near Billesley, Warwickshire, on 14 October, 2023.

Redi Muzhaki, 22, of Bridgeman Road, Coventry, "collided head-on with them" on the A46, police said. Mrs Boore later died in hospital where her husband's serious injuries were treated.

During a hearing at Warwick Crown Court, Muzhaki was also given an 18-month sentence, suspended for two years, after being convicted of causing Mrs Boore's death by careless driving.

For her husband's serious injuries, Muzhaki was sentenced to 15 months, suspended for two years and to run concurrently, at Friday's hearing.

He also received a 12-month suspended sentence, to run concurrently, for causing a death while driving without a licence or insurance.

The court ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid supervised work, comply with a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement, and pay a £187 victim surcharge.

Muzhaki and two other men in the Vauxhall Astra he was driving were also seriously hurt, Warwickshire Police said.

'Sense of injustice'

In a statement issued by police, Mrs Boore's daughter Nicola said dealing with the overwhelming nature of her mother's death was a "daily struggle".

On most days since the crash she said "she felt pure sadness and an overwhelming sense of injustice".

"[My dad's] physical injuries prevented him taking care of himself when he returned home and he was dealing with mental and emotional trauma too," she said.

"My dad had his wife of 54 years taken from him. I had a wonderful, kind mum taken from me and my children had an amazing, caring grandmother taken from them."

PC Drew Ballantyne said instead of enjoying their retirement, the couple had been hit "by an uninsured... careless driver, who had no consideration for their safety".
