A colourful new mural has been unveiled at an east Leeds park celebrating the local community and the vibrancy of nature and wildlife in the area.

The artwork was completed at Banstead Park in Harehills by street artist HazardOne.

The mural was created as part of a wider refurbishment of the green space, including new seating, signage and lighting, according to Leeds City Council.

HazardOne said: "As a Yorkshire lass, it's always so rewarding to be part of projects at home that make community spaces more welcoming, inviting and colourful.

"Street art is such an impactful way of transforming and brightening up spaces.

"It's been such a fun project to work alongside people from the Harehills community."

HazardOne added: "The design is based on what the young women and girls from the community wanted to see in their public spaces."

A Leeds City Council spokesperson said the authority wanted to make its parks safer and more appealing to women and girls generally.

As part of the park's revamp, large shrubs were being replaced with spring and summer flowers, they added.

Meanwhile, the multi-use games area was being given new markings and a second entrance.
