Somerset in pictures: Summer, scarecrows and film sets

Summer has finally arrived in Somerset, with temperatures reaching the late 20s this week.

There has been plenty of sights and activities across the region, including people heading out to seek cool waters, filming for a new Netflix crime drama and a scarecrows festival.

Heatwave: As temperatures climbed into the high 20s this week, plenty of people headed for the coast. Popular spots such as Clevedon Marine Lake were busy in the evenings as locals and visitors cooled off.

Fun in the sun: Paddle boarders headed to Warleigh Weir to make the most of the warm weather. There were warnings of thunderstorms later in the week, but the sun stuck around.

Taunton Flower Show. There are many different flower beds and people hanging around the area.

Blooming good time: Taunton Flower Show returned for its 193rd annual event in Vivary Park between 2 to 3 August.

The show was first held in 1831, initially established in the Assembly Rooms on the Parage.

It was reportedly set up by the gentlemen of the area to show off the expertise of their gardeners, encouraging premium horticulture by growing the best specimens of flowers, fruit and vegetables.

An impressive effort: Barrington residents are preparing for the upcoming scarecrow competition and fete on 17 August.

There's a variety of the homemade sculptures dotted around the village, including Spiderman, Batman and Peter Rabbit.

Fur-ever homes: Two puppies, named Tilly Norah and Stanley Jones, were found abandoned in a sealed cardboard box on 5 July.

They were taken in by the RSPCA and the rescue centre now hopes they have found their fur-ever homes.

Anyone who finds an abandoned animal is advised to take them to the vets to ensure they get the quickest care possible.

Going for gold: Tom Dean's family and friends celebrated after the Team GB swimmer, who lives and trains in Bath, secured an Olympic gold medal.

Dean, along with his teammates - Duncan Scott, James Guy and Matthew Richards - retained their title as 4x200m freestyle champions.

Lights, camera, action: Great Pulteney Street in Bath has turned back in time.

The city is providing the backdrop for a new, Netflix adaptation of Agatha Christie's The Seven Dials Mystery.

It stars Martin Freeman, Mia McKenna-Bruce and Helena Bonham Carter.
