'Mini Spice Girls' try to get band back together
Two women who played the part of young Spice Girls in a video are trying to reunite the rest of the group.
Five young girls and five older girls acted as child versions of Posh, Baby, Scary, Sporty and Ginger Spice in the 1997 video for the song Mama.
Alice Connor, 33, from Chesham in Buckinghamshire, was six when she played "baby Posh Spice" and said it would "be really special" if all five of her crew could connect again.
Sharna D’rosario, who played Baby Spice, managed to track her down during the pandemic but they have not managed to find the other three "Mini Spices".
Alice had been invited to a mocked-up concert filming the new single Mama as part of the Sylvia Young Theatre School, along with other girls and mums.
"I was wearing my little black dress and little back bag, I called it my Gucci bag. I had a bob cut. I absolutely loved Posh Spice and wanted to be like her," she said.
"My sister was more like Sporty Spice, we used to dress up like them."
She said Geri Halliwell, aka Ginger Spice, spotted her as they all danced in a circle behind the pop stars.
"She said ‘oh gosh Victoria, doesn’t she look like you!'"
"After that, someone from production came up to me and asked 'do you want to be in the music video?'
"I feel so lucky to have been part of something that is so iconic."
They were not allowed to take photos on set, but Sharna still had a snap of the five girls taken during a lunch break in McDonald's.
"During the pandemic I got a message and picture from the girl that was playing Baby Spice in the music video, Sharna.
"She said ‘I can’t believe I’ve finally found you, I’ve really wanted to reconnect with the Spice Girls'.
"We did post the photo and it got quite a few shares but we've never managed to find the other three," Alice said.
"How cool would it be if we can recreate the video?
"Sharna and I both became mums last year so it would be amazing to see if the other girls have, or recreate something. It would just be really special."
