Polls open for five local authority elections

Contests are being held in five districts with the island's 21 local authorities

Polls have opened in the Isle of Man's local authority general election.

Voters in five districts within the island's 21 local government areas are eligible to elect their representatives for the next four years.

The areas where elections are being contested are Castletown, Douglas South Ward, Patrick, Peel, and Ramsey North Ward.

The polls will be open from 08:00 to 20:00 BST.

Successful candidates will serve on their respective local authority boards until April 2029.

Castletown (seven seats)

Candidates: Tony Brown, Beth Cannan, John Cringle, William Galley, Colin Leather, Alan Leonard, Mahendrakumar Patel, Carol Quine and Laurence Watterson

Polling station:

  • Castletown Town Hall, Civic Centre, Farrants Way, Castletown

Douglas South Ward (three seats)

Candidates: Steven Crellin, David Cretney, Karel Ver Elst and William Smedley

Polling stations:

  • Anagh Coar Mobile Unit, Anagh Coar Car Park, Cushag Road, Douglas
  • Douglas Golf Course, Meadows Pavillion, Pulrose Road, Douglas
  • Douglas City Hall, Ridgeway Street, Douglas
  • Scoill Vallajeelt, Meadow Crescent, Douglas

Patrick (five seats)

Candidates: Robert Anderson, Henry Bridson, Gordon Clague, Paul Craker, Leo Cussons and Simon Mellor

Polling stations:

  • Patrick Old School, Patrick Corner, Patrick
  • St James Dalby School Rooms, Main Road, Dalby,
  • Foxdale School, Mines Road, Foxdale

Peel (seven seats)

Candidates: Katryna Baptist, Frank Crompton, Alistair Cubbon-Wood, Stuart Hardingham, Ray Harmer, Sharon Lambert, Christine Moughtin and William Otieno-Costain

Polling station:

  • Corrin Hall, Derby Road, Peel

Ramsey North Ward (six seats)

Candidates: Emma Honey, Pauline Johns-Garrett, Juan McGuinness, Katrina Netelat, Andrea Nolan, Elizabeth Shimmin, Margaret Webb and Wilf Young

Polling station:

  • Ramsey Town Hall, Parliament Square, Ramsey

The call for candidates for the island-wide election saw members in 18 districts fill all the available seats unopposed.

The five remaining authorities failed to attract enough candidates and will have to hold by-elections at a later date.
