Motorist blames foxes for damage to car's wiring

Foxes are being blamed for causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage to a car in West Sussex.

Lauren Brook, from Rustington, believes the animals chewed through ABS wiring and damaged sensors underneath her car on three occasions.

She told BBC Radio Sussex: "There are loads of foxes living in our close and I guessed it was them. They've damaged other stuff in my garden, like my sons trampoline."

She said damage had cost £250 to repair last year, and she had now been quoted £395 plus VAT for damage to the sensors.

She said: "I don’t have an issue with foxes - they have to live somewhere.

"It's just really frustrating when it costs a lot of money to get the car fixed which I really don’t have."

East Sussex Wildlife and Rescue Service said foxes and rodents are often attracted to new "soy-based coatings" on car wiring.

The AA has seen "a fairly regular stream of these incidents where animals were nibbling at cars" across the country, a spokesperson said.
