Two women praised for talking man off rail tracks

Police have thanked two women who talked a distressed man off a railway line in Nottinghamshire.

They noticed the man at a level crossing in Attenborough at about 14:00 BST on Saturday and spoke to him while the emergency services were called.

The man came off the track after the pair built a rapport with him and he was sitting in one of their gardens when police arrived.

Insp Alice Bartle, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "I would like to recognise the quick-thinking actions of two members of the public when they saw a man in distress on the railway lines."

"I am in no doubt if these two women were not there then the outcome could have been very different," Insp Bartle added.

"It was due to their compassion that they have essentially saved a man's life."
