Woman held after man seriously hurt in M27 crash

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injures after he was involved in a crash after stopping on the hard shoulder on the M27 in Hampshire.

A woman was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving following the collision on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway on Saturday at about 22:30 GMT.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it happened between junction two (Ower) and three (M271), and involved a black VW Golf and a silver Mercedes SLK.

The force said the man aged in his 30s, suffered life-changing, potentially life-threatening injuries, and was from the VW Golf on the hard shoulder.

The arrested woman, aged 44, from Wraysbury, Windsor and Maidenhead, Berkshire, has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

She remains in police custody.

The road was initially shut bothways - the westbound carriageway re-opened at about 01:00 and the eastbound reopened fully at about 09:30.

Witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage is being urged to come forward to police.
