Scooter riding newlyweds say 'you're never too old'

A bride and groom were cheered all the way to their wedding reception when they rode alongside each other on colourfully decorated mobility scooters.

Micky "Turks" Taylor, 77, and Iris Reddon, 80, tied the knot at St George's Hall in Liverpool before scooting across the city to the Cavern Club.

The couple, from East Sussex, met three years ago on a dating website and said they fell in love during a weekend in Liverpool.

"This is the place to come for fun," said great grandfather Micky. "Whenever we feel a little bit down I say 'Come on, let's get the train, we'll go to Liverpool!'"

While the couple both love The Cavern - known the world over for its connection to The Beatles - Iris said it was all about the warm Scouse welcome they always receive in the city.

"The people are so lovely and friendly and it's always been a special place for us," the grandmother told the Liverpool Echo.

Micky, who has one son, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, is a joiner by trade, as well as a non-league football pundit and author.

Iris, a former ballerina and dance teacher, has two children and three grandchildren.

Micky said he proposed to Iris while they were on a cruise.

He said they had visited the cemeteries where their parents are buried in order to "ask for their permission" to get married.

The couple said they hope their story can inspire others to see that "you're never too old" to be happy and find love.

"I think initially, when you do lose somebody, you don't know where you are or which way you're going to go," said Iris.

"But we only have one life and you have to make the most of that life and enjoy yourself.

"You're never really too old. I tell myself that every day."
