Plans for a new surgical hub to ease local NHS waiting lists have been approved by North Lincolnshire Council.

The development will be built on undeveloped scrubland off Normanby Road and provide quicker access to surgeries that have been scheduled in advance.

The independent facility will provide NHS-funded medical procedures including orthopaedics, spine, general surgery, gynaecology and urology.

Adam Binns, One Health Group's chief executive officer said: "We're delighted to confirm that our first site will be in Scunthorpe, and that our first surgical hub there will bring both localised specialist surgical services and employment to a much-deprived area."

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the company's surgical hubs were expected to deliver significant additional surgical operating capacity in regions with limited provision of NHS services.

Scunthorpe's surgical hub will employ up to 20 staff and include 12 en-suite bedrooms for patients.

Mr Binns said: "The NHS is increasingly looking to independent providers for additional support.

"We are confident the additional capacity provided by our first surgical hub, will complement the ongoing organic growth driven by our existing community-based outreach clinics and third party surgical operating locations".

Patients would need to be referred to the hub through the NHS Patient Choice scheme.

A start date for construction has not been confirmed but the proposed opening date is late Summer 2026.

One Health Group currently treats around 12,000 patients a year across its existing sites. The Scunthorpe facility would work alongside the NHS and independently.
