Christmas light trail celebrates town's heritage
Stuart WalkerA Christmas light trail has been designed to celebrate a town's heritage.
The free event this weekend at Hall Park in Workington, Cumbria, sees projections of colourful symbols that are drawn from the area's cultural and industrial history.
One of the local artists, Hannah Fox, celebrated the town's rail manufacturing heritage with light installations in the shape of passing railway signals and rail workers.
Hall Park Light Works is open from 17:30 to 20:30 GMT on Saturday and Sunday.
Artist Ronan Devlin designed more than 200 symbols that will be projected on to Workington Hall, which is on the grounds.
He said a unicorn symbol being used related to the statues at the gated entrance of the Grade II listed building, also known as Curwen Hall.
Unicorns also represent purity or strength, Mr Devlin said.
The words "Glem" inside an eye-shaped icon is Cumbrian slang for "look", he added.
Stuart WalkerThe soundtrack by Ant Dickinson includes rail sounds and a model railway on the site will be operational throughout the event.
It features music from Workington Town Brass Band, which was recorded by technicians from the Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre.
It has been organised by Cumberland Council in partnership with Everyone Here and was funded through the government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Arts Council England.
