Trains cancelled as Storm Bert rain floods track

Train travellers between Exeter, Barnstaple and Okehampton are facing cancellations because of flooding caused by Storm Bert.

Great Western Railway (GWR) said heavy rain had affected the line between Crediton and Yeoford and disruption was expected until at least 12:00 GMT.

GWR said when the River Yeo's level dropped divers would have to inspect one of the railway bridges over it for damage.

It said replacement bus services were running and travellers could also use their tickets on local Stagecoach buses.

Trains could not run over the bridge until it had been inspected said a GWR spokesperson.

"As trains have not run along the line for a few days an empty train will then be sent along the line to examine for any fallen trees or damage, once that is done, and if nothing is found, we will be able to start running our timetabled service," said GWR.

"We do not expect this to be until midday at the earliest."
