Teenage driver arrested over fatal car crash
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after two teenagers died and several other people were injured in a two-car crash in East Yorkshire on New Year's Day.
The crash involving a Volkswagen Golf and a Vauxhall Grandland happened at about 01:20 GMT in Staithes Road, Preston, near Hull.
Two passengers in the Golf – a boy aged 16 and an 18-year-old man – were killed.
The car's driver has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, Humberside Police said.
Two other passengers in the VW, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, suffered serious injuries.
The girl remains in a critical condition and the boy is in a serious condition, police said.
A passenger in the Vauxhall, a man aged 62, was taken to hospital with serious injuries along with the driver, a 34-year-old woman who sustained a serious arm injury.
Two other passengers in that car suffered minor injuries.
The arrested teenager has been released on bail while inquiries continue.
Police have renewed an appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage of the crash.
