Dog killed in 'XL bully type' attack - police

A dog has died after being attacked by an "XL bully type" dog in Hull, police have said.

Officers said it was being walked when it was attacked at about 10:30 GMT on Sunday, in Douglas Road.

It was taken to a nearby veterinary clinic where it died of its injuries. Two people, who tried to intervene, were bitten and needed hospital treatment for their injuries.

Humberside Police said the dog responsible for the attack had been seized as part of their inquiries.

The force said one person suffered bite wounds to their nose and hand. The other person suffered injuries to their hand.

Ch Insp Rob Danby said: "I understand this is a distressing incident for the owners of the dog who sadly didn’t survive the attack, and we are working closely with them to understand the circumstances around the incident."

An XL bully is the largest kind of American bully dog.

Since 1 February it has been a criminal offence to own or possess an XL bully in England and Wales unless the dog is exempted.
