A lorry driver has died after a crash occurred on the A1.

Cambridgeshire Police said the incident happened at about 14:40 GMT at Water Newton, near Peterborough.

The force believed the HGV driver, a man in his 40s, lost control of the vehicle which crashed into the barriers and then swerved into a field.

The A1 was expected to remain closed southbound for at least a few hours.

Police said the vehicle was a tanker carrying liquid, and they were investigating the cause of the crash.

Detectives appealed for anyone who might have seen the HGV before the incident, or who had dashcam footage, to contact them.
