Data centre 'could create 400 jobs' if approved

Plans to build one of Europe's largest data centres have been submitted to North Lincolnshire Council.

The development would be built on land near the A160 near South Killingholme and could create 400 jobs if approved.

Officials at the council also said the plans could make the area a "leader" in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and lead to £3bn investment.

Councillor Rob Waltham, leader of the authority, said the plan is a "massive vote of confidence" in the local economy.

The scheme, known as the Humber Tech Park, would see the data centre spread across 309000sq m (3326048sq ft) including three large buildings, office and a horticultural glass house.

Mr Waltham added: "This is a generational level of investment in the area and, if approved, would be a magnet for attracting other high-tech businesses.

“The jobs would be highly skilled and highly paid with many more employed during the construction phase."

The proposal now needs to go through the North Lincolnshire Council's planning process.
