The route for the new busway has been agreed, so attention has turned to its wider impact

People are being asked for their views on the environmental impact of a proposed busway.

The Waterbeach to Cambridge route has already been agreed by the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP).

The transport body now wants people's say on how to manage and reduce the scheme's environmental impact.

The new busway would give an alternative route to the A10 linking Cambridge and Waterbeach, where a new housing development is under way.

Outline permission for 6,500 homes on the former military base at Waterbeach was given in 2019.

Three public information events are taking place, including an online meeting on 13 June, and in-person meetings at Landbeach Village Hall on 19 June and Waterbeach Baptist Church on 25 June.

The GCP needs to provide an environmental impact assessment to the Department for Transport.

Elisa Meschini, chairperson of the GCP's executive board, said: "With thousands of new homes being built at Waterbeach New Town, it is vital we deliver better transport infrastructure to give people choice in how they travel to Cambridge."

The consultation closes at midday on 15 July.
