A fox was left with "really nasty swelling" after getting a washing line cover wrapped around its tongue.

The animal was found "badly tangled" by a person in their garden in the Waltham Forest area of north-east London, the South Essex Wildlife Hospital said.

It was taken into care in Orsett where a vet was able to remove the object and assess injuries to its throat and jaw.

"After the first 24 hours, things are definitely looking hopeful," the hospital said.

The fox was put on anti-inflammatory medication after the incident and was recovering well, being able to eat and drink independently.

"There is still a long way to go, but we are not giving up on her," the hospital added.
