School forced to close after water pipe bursts
A primary school has been forced to close after it was left without any water supply due to a burst pipe.
Northway Primary School, in Maghull, Sefton, issued an "emergency message" to parents stating it was "unsafe for children to attend" before it closed earlier.
A water pipe burst under the front of the building on Dodds Lane.
United Utilities fixed the pipe on Monday evening and assured staff the water would be fine on Tuesday but according to headteacher, Kate McKenzie, there was no water supply to the school buildings.
The school apologised to parents for the inconvenience and short notice of the closure.
A United Utilities spokesperson said: “One of our engineers attended the school last night and found that the leak is on a private pipe that is not part of the United Utilities network.
"Although we aren’t responsible for carrying out repairs on private networks, our engineer dug down to make the pipe accessible for whoever comes to do that work.
"We have also got an engineer in the area, and they are visiting the school to give further advice.”
Northway Primary School said they were liaising with Sefton Council to try to find a solution.
