People are being advised to take action to protect their belongings after thefts from vans in Surrey.

Surrey Police said it had received a "handful" of reports in the Surrey Heath area on Saturday and Sunday, notably targeting tools and work materials.

The force has asked people to consider taking high-value items into their homes at the end of the day, ensuring they are not left unattended.

People with tools have also been encouraged to forensically mark them so they are easier to identify.

The force has urged people to remain observant and report any suspicious activity on its online portal.

It said this could include people looking into vehicles or repeatedly walking or driving through an area.
