Murdoch Road will remain closed until it is made safe, South East Water said

Repair work on two burst water pipes that affected almost 70 properties is complete.

Water mains burst on Murdoch Road and Chetwode Close in Wokingham on Thursday, affecting 57 and 10 homes, respectively.

However, Murdoch Road will remain closed until it is returned to a "safe and driveable condition", Paul Mann, South East Water's regional network manager, said.

He apologised to all customers affected by the leaks.

The water company was alerted to the burst main at Murdoch Road at about 16:00 GMT.

"Soon after we managed to re-route water across our network to maintain pressures and reduce the amount of customers experiencing supply issues," Mr Mann said.

"We had to isolate the main around 22:00 to carry out repairs, which affected the supply to 57 properties in the area.

"Our repair work was completed under a road closure and supplies were restored to customers at 02:00 this morning."

No road closure was required for the burst main in Chetwode Close, which was reported at 14:30. Repairs began an hour later with supplies restored by 17:50.

"We apologise to all customers who experienced no water or low pressure as a result of the bursts and thank them for their patience while we carried out repairs," Mr Mann added.
