A man has died after a single-vehicle collision on the M18 near Doncaster following a suspected medical episode, police said.

Emergency services were called at 15:45 GMT on Monday following reports a white Volkswagen Tiguan had hit a barrier on the M18 southbound at the top of the slip road for junction five.

The driver, a 55-year-old man, was given CPR by an off-duty officer but later died in hospital. His family was being supported by specialist officers, South Yorkshire Police said.

Part of the M18 was shut for around four hours while officers conducted further inquiries. The road reopened at about 20:00 GMT.

Anyone with information or footage is asked to contact police.
