Woodbridge Road is a busy route linking Ipswich with east Suffolk

Work to a gas main which was due to close a town centre route for six months will not begin on schedule after a leak was detected.

Gas distribution company Cadent planned to start replacing 1.8 miles (3km) of gas pipes in Woodbridge Road, Ipswich, from Tuesday.

However, a gas leak was found on a pipe further along Woodbridge Road, which was "under control" but needed to be fixed before the other work could begin, Cadent said.

The upgrade will be postponed to a date yet to be agreed with the county council to avoid two sets of roadworks so close to each other, it added.
