A fire station is set to undergo a £700,000 redevelopment to modernise its on-site accommodation.

The funding for Faringdon Fire Station is part of an Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) scheme to decarbonise its buildings.

The project is set to begin in January 2025, and is expected to take about four months to complete.

New facilities for cleaning breathing apparatus equipment are part of new health and safety features that will be installed as part of the improvements.

Thermal insulation, solar panels and air source heating will also be installed to help reduce the building's carbon footprint.

OCC's public health chief Dr Nathan Ley said: "This significant investment reflects our environmental credentials, and our commitment to provide the very best facilities for fire and rescue crews and support staff, always ensuring that health and wellbeing is taken seriously.

"This investment is also reflective of our commitment to look after all corners of our county."

Dr Ley added that crews based at the station would relocate to another premises in the town while the works take place, "ensuring there will be no disruption to emergency and community responses".
