This year's poppy appeal raised £15,000 more than last year's, the charity said

The Royal British Legion in Jersey raised over £200,000 in this year's poppy appeal, the charity has revealed.

The appeal raised £201,832.31 - an increase of over £15,000 on the 2023 total.

The charity has been supporting service personnel, veterans and their families in Jersey since 1922.

Alison Opfermann, poppy appeal organiser, said the charity had been "completely overwhelmed" by the generosity of islanders.

She added: "Every penny we raise stays in Jersey, so on behalf of the island's service veterans and their families, we offer sincere and heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated or made a purchase."

Tim Daniels, chairman of the Royal British Legion in Jersey said every penny donated to the poppy appeal would help members or former members of the armed forces community.

He also thanked the charity's volunteers - who he said worked "tirelessly behind the scenes".
