Six-mile stretch of A38 to get 12 speed cameras

Twelve new speed cameras are to be installed along a six-mile stretch of the A38 in Cornwall as part of a £750,000 road safety scheme.
National Highways said safety issues had been identified on the road between Carkeel roundabout and Trerulefoot.
It said 10 average speed cameras and two spot cameras would be installed "in the coming months" and they would monitor new 30mph (48 km/h) restrictions at Landrake and Tideford.
National Highways' South West road safety manager Jack Mason said: "We're always exploring ways to make our roads safer by using collision data, risk assessments and insights to better understand driver behaviour."

Mr Mason said the scheme was a "fully collaborative effort" in partnership with Cornwall Council, Devon and Cornwall Police, Vision Zero and others.
"The road sees a daily average of 23,600 journeys and the scheme is designed to improve safety for all road users and ultimately reduce the number of people harmed on the region's roads," he said.
National Highways said collision data between 2019 and 2023 showed a total of 60 collisions in the area, leading to 97 casualties - two of which were fatalities.
It said the average speed cameras would enforce the existing 50mph limit sections, while two bi-directional speed cameras would enforce the new 30mph speed restrictions through the two villages.
National Highways said work was expect to start "in early summer" following a traffic regulation order this month.
