A major search operation is ongoing in the Borders to try to trace a man reported missing after a crash on the A7 near Selkirk.

Emergency services were called out to the accident involving two cars close to the Lindean Junction at about 19:10 on Tuesday.

Shane Donnelly or Barr, 26, believed to be the driver of one of the vehicles, was not at the scene when officers arrived.

Police say he may have been injured in the collision and a police helicopter and dogs have been involved in efforts to try to trace him.

The missing man, from Galashiels, has been described as 6ft, with brown hair and facial hair, and blue eyes.

It is not known what he was wearing at the time.

The female driver of the second car was taken by ambulance to Borders General Hospital for treatment.

Insp David Aitchison said: "We are concerned for Shane's welfare, as we believe he may have suffered injuries, and it is imperative that we trace him as soon as possible.

"Significant resources, including the police helicopter and dog branch, have been involved in searches of the local area and inquiries are continuing.

"Shane has links across the Scottish Borders and I am keen to hear from anyone who may have information about Shane's whereabouts.

"I am also appealing directly to Shane, if you are reading this, please let us know you are safe and well."
