Peterborough United's club shop was replaced by a megastore in December

Plans to open a new community space in Peterborough United's former club shop have been approved.

It would lead to meetings, social events, and activities including yoga, being held next to the Weston Homes Stadium entrance.

Peterborough City Council also granted permission for the room to have a bar and an accessible toilet.

The club said the activities would "not increase footfall on match days".

The club shop has been vacant since the club opened its new megastore in December.

According to the plans, the new function room would not be open to the public outside of match days.

Instead, it would be privately booked during licensed hours, with community use run by the Posh Foundation to "provide patrons with an area that is covered and warm rather than the fan zone areas".

A spokesperson for the club previously said they were "excited about the prospect of adding a valuable community space to the stadium footprint".

The proposed opening hours of the room were around match day operating hours:

  • Weekend fixtures with a 15:00 kick-off: 12:00 until 18:00
  • Midweek fixtures with a 19:45 kick-off: 17:30 until 22:30

It would also have five car parking spaces, the Local Democracy Reporting Service wrote.
