A man has appeared in court after being charged with the murder of a 77-year-old man who died two years ago.

Kurt Giwisser, 77, was allegedly assaulted on South Cross Road, Huddersfield, on 21 February 2023.

He was treated in hospital for head injuries and discharged, but later required further medical attention and died in hospital two months later.

David Hill, 57, appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court this morning and was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court on Monday.

West Yorkshire Police said Mr Hill had initially been arrested on suspicion of assault but was later arrested on suspicion of murder.

He had been released on police bail as the force continued to investigate the incident but was charged with murder on Friday.

"Mr Giwisser's family continue to be supported by detectives," a force spokesperson added.
