Rail services disrupted after level crossing crash

Rail services have been disrupted after a train hit the back of a vehicle on a level crossing, Network Rail have said.

The incident, involving a Northern train, happened near Grange-over-Sands in Cumbria on Saturday afternoon.

Nobody was injured in the incident, but engineers attending the site discovered "an issue with the track bed" which turned out to be related to previous inspections.

Network Rail also warned that rail replacement buses would be running between Barrow and Preston as well as Oxenholme to Windermere for the rest of Saturday.

"For journeys between Preston and Lancaster, ticket acceptance is in place on Transpennine Express and Avanti trains," a spokesperson said.

Services are expected to start running again on Sunday morning.
