Park Street car park is due to reopen after some last-minute procedural checks

A city centre car park is due to reopen after a "major delay" to its redevelopment.

Cambridge's Park Street car park was closed in January 2022 for main project works and demolition with an expected reopening date of August 2024.

The city council said there had been "unprecedented weather, changes to compliance and regulation requiring additional works, and supply chain issues".

A "major delay" was also caused by a "contractor's failure to install the power connection", said the council, which hoped to reopen the facility after some final checks on Tuesday.

The old facility was demolished to make way for Staycity's five-storey, 229-room hotel.

There will be a public car park with 225 spaces in the basement of the new development.

It is due to be reopened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

A council spokesperson said: "The project team has worked with all the adjacent businesses and residents throughout the project.

"The team has worked extremely hard to keep delays to a minimum."
