Child, 12, charged over primary school knife incident

A 12-year-old has been charged after being found with a craft knife at Laurencekirk Primary School in Aberdeenshire.

Police Scotland said it received a "report of concern" about a child in possession of a knife on Friday.

The force said the incident was reported to Youth Justice Management and officers were "working with partners to address the matter".

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson said: "The safety and wellbeing of pupils is our top priority and this incident was dealt with swiftly by our staff and police."

Police Scotland said the knife was recovered and there was no risk to the public.
