Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) has opened its second community landing site in Plymouth.

The charity said the site at Central Park was now operational for their crews to use if required, alongside its existing one in Keyham.

It said the landing site would enable their aircraft to land "quickly and safely in the densely populated and heavily urbanised city of Plymouth" during the hours of darkness, enabling their clinical teams to reach patients more quickly.

Leading site manager Graham Coates said the new landing area would allow crews to reach more local people by air when it was dark.

'Lifesaving'

Mr Coates also thanked the green communities team at Plymouth City Council (PCC) for their support, as well as councillors and local stakeholders at Central Park.

Councillor Tom Briars-Delve, cabinet member for the environment and climate change said: "We're delighted that Central Park is now officially a Devon Air Ambulance night-time landing spot.

"We're hoping it never has to be used but with the site now operational it could potentially be lifesaving to anyone needing it."
