Fire destroys former school used as cannabis farm

A fire has torn through an abandoned school building, previously used as a cannabis farm, causing the roof to collapse.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to Penwalle Road in Llandysul, Ceredigion, just after 07:00 BST on Wednesday.

Crews from Llandysul, Newcastle Emlyn, Lampeter, New Quay, Port Talbot, Aberystwyth and Carmarthen were needed to tackle the blaze.

The fire service said the building was well alight and efforts to bring the blaze under control were ongoing.

Two men pleaded guilty on 9 July to drugs charges after cannabis plants worth up to £2m were found growing in the school.

Police found about 1,500 cannabis plants in various stages of growth across two floors on 4 July.
