Sensodyne maker set to cut 435 jobs

The firm behind Sensodyne toothpaste plans to shut its Berkshire manufacturing site at a loss of 435 jobs.

Haleon, which also makes Centrum vitamins and Panadol painkillers, said it will close its Maidenhead site over a two-year period.

The company said its base in Norreys Drive was "no longer a viable option" following a strategic review.

A consultation has been opened for staff who would be affected by the move.

GSK had announced its consumer healthcare business would be called Haleon in 2022.

In a statement on Tuesday, a spokesperson said the move is "an important step on Haleon’s journey to creating a more agile, effective consumer health organisation".

They said staff were told of the potential closure on Monday.

The company employs nearly 2,000 staff in the UK and will transfer some of the production to its site in Slovakia.

It plans to spend at least £130m in a new oral health research and development facility in Weybridge, Surrey, where it also has its headquarters.
