Police are urging homeowners to check their security after a spate of burglaries.

Break-ins and attempted burglaries have been reported across the south of Cambridgeshire from Monday to Wednesday.

A detective said opportunistic burglars had targeted unlocked doors and windows, particularly in the Mill Road area of Cambridge.

None of the burglaries is thought to be linked and investigations are ongoing.

Det Sgt Jon Lockwood, from Cambridgeshire Police's Acquisitive Crime Team, said: “I would encourage people to report suspicious behaviour to us so we can get a fuller picture of what is happening in the community."

The Cherry Hinton, King’s Hedges and Barnwell areas of Cambridge have been targeted, as well as Gamlingay, Ely and Histon.

In Barnwell, a wedding dress, passport and bank cards were stolen from a house while jewellery was stolen from a house in Normanton Way, Histon.
