Police witness appeal after man killed in A9 crash

Police have appealed for information after a 49-year-old man was killed in a four-vehicle crash in Highland Perthshire.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance and fire crews, were called to the scene on the A9 near Ballinluig, at about 08:15 on Tuesday.

The incident involved a white Scania lorry, a blue Ford Focus, a white Peugeot Bipper and a Honda HRV.

Officers said the driver of the Peugeot was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 26-year-old male lorry driver, the 36-year-old female Focus driver and the 66-year-old male HRV driver were all taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

The road remained closed for more than 10 hours before reopening shortly before 19:00.

As a result hundreds of drivers were stranded in freezing conditions and faced diversions between 26 and 36 miles long.

PC Mike Guild said: "Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, and who has not already spoken to officers, to get in touch.

"I would also appeal to anyone who was driving in this area around that time and who may have dashcam footage which could assist us to contact us."
