Jersey signs agreement with Caribbean islands

The Government of Jersey has agreed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Antigua and Barbuda.

It said the move had been made to "strengthen ties within education, sport and culture" with the Caribbean nation.

Antigua and Barbuda Minister of Education, Sport and Creative Industries Daryll Matthew travelled to Jersey last week to sign the agreement.

He was greeted by Minister for Sustainable Economic Development Deputy Kirsten Morel.

As part of the agreement, ministers from the islands will meet annually to discuss progress on the issues.

Morel said: "Our islands have formed a promising partnership in recent years and I was delighted to welcome Minister Matthew to Jersey for the second time to strengthen that bond.

"The signing of an innovative MoU will give residents in both jurisdictions exciting opportunities to develop their skill sets, while broadening their horizons."

Matthew said: "This MoU represents an exciting next step in our relationship with Jersey.

"It creates mutually beneficial opportunities in education, the creative industries and cultural exchanges that will enrich both our nations.

"As small islands, there is much we have in common and a significant opportunity to share, support and learn from each other."
