Supermarket firm Lidl has applied for permission to demolish a former office block so it can build a new store in a Leicestershire town.

The company wants to knock down Ashfield House in Resolution Road, in Ashby.

The firm said demolition work would start on 12 September, if North West Leicestershire District Council granted permission.

The council gave the go-ahead for the new store to be built in July.

Lidl has said the supermarket would create 40 new jobs.

When the initial plans were submitted, some residents voiced concerns over traffic problems, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

According to council documents, the site is expected to be fully cleared by 24 October.

It is not known when work to build the new store could get under way.
