A six-storey modern apartment block is set to be built on a seaside promenade after planners backed the proposals.

The 12-flat development on Mooragh Promenade in Ramsey, between North Shore Road and Hope Street, was put forward by 8G Architects.

The homes would be a mix of two and three-bedroom apartments, with parking provided in an underground car park.

The application had been welcomed by the town's local authority.

During its consideration, some concerns were raised about access for waste collection from the storage area in the underground car park.

As a result, planners approved the development on the basis that the gradient of the slope up to the entrance allowed for safe access.

Planners also heard that the building would obscure the view of the sea from some of the side windows in a neighbouring block, but that was not deemed to be an issue as the view of the harbourside remained clear.

The building is now set to fill an empty plot alongside the existing Victoria-era buildings along the promenade.
