Dangerous driving arrests after pedestrian killed
Five people have been arrested over the death of a pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a car.
The woman, in her 50s, died at the scene after being hit by a blue Volkswagen Golf on Manchester Road in Nelson at about 20:30 GMT on Sunday, Lancashire Police said.
The Golf failed to stop after the crash and the car was later recovered on Pennine Crescent.
Two 19-year-old men, a 20-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and a 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
All five remain in custody for questioning, police said.
Sgt Laura Kendall said: "If you have any footage of the incident, or of the Volkswagen Golf before or after the collision on Manchester Road, please get in touch.
"We are also very keen to identify anyone that has seen the vehicle or has CCTV of it heading towards the Pennine Crescent area."
