A 72-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to murdering a neighbour who was stabbed in north London.

Derek Brown is accused of attacking Richard Braithwaite, 73, with a knife over a belief Mr Braithwaite was leaving items in their shared alleyway in Wembley.

Mr Braithwaite’s wife Annetta, 71, was allegedly punched and suffered cuts during the incident last March.

She had called police, who found him bleeding from a stab wound.

Mr Brown was arrested later outside Wembley police station.

He appeared at the Old Bailey via video-link from HMP Belmarsh wearing a grey tracksuit.

He denied murder, as well as wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Judge Charles Bourne KC set a three-week trial to begin in January.
