A town centre will be transformed into a beach again later this month in a bid to help local businesses.

Festival Square in Oswestry, Shropshire, will have a lorry load of sand poured onto it for the free family event on 24 and 25 May.

The Oswestry Business Improvement District (BID), which supports local traders, said there would also be buckets, spades and deck chairs for visitors.

It will be the fourth time the beach event has been held in the town.

Adele Nightingale, the BID manager, said the sand would be brought in by contractors who would set up the beach area.

They would also set up speakers to play sounds of the sea, and arrange for it to be covered at night and surrounded by fencing to keep it secure, she said.

Ms Nightingale said she wanted to "raise the profile of Oswestry" through the event and attract more people to the town.
