Investigation launched after death of worker at recycling plant
An investigation has been launched into the death of a worker at a recycling centre in Fife.
The 66-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering injuries at Dunfermline Recycling Centre at about 16:30 on Wednesday.
The man was an employee of Cireco, the company which runs waste facilities on behalf of Fife Council.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are assisting Police Scotland in their probe into the incident.
The recycling centre, in Lochhead, remained closed on Thursday.
Emergency crews had been called after reports of a man being injured at the site.
Cireco chief executive Robin Baird said it was a “tragic situation,” adding support had been offered to colleagues.
He added: “We are supporting the Police and the HSE with their investigations and will not be able to comment further on the incident until those investigations have concluded.
“This is a tragic situation. The thoughts of everyone at Cireco are with the family, friends and loved ones of our colleague at this very difficult time.”
A spokeswoman for Fife Council said their staff were also supporting the Police and HSE.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said inquiries into the incident were ongoing.
