Police officers were called to a housing estate after residents reported hearing shots being fired.

Bedfordshire Police was called after reports of disorder between groups of men and the sound of gunfire at Marsh Farm, in Luton, just before 17:00 GMT on Friday.

The force authorised a Section 60 order, giving officers the power to stop and search anyone in Quantock Rise, Bramingham Road, Sundon Park Road and Sundon Road until 11:00 today.

A police spokesperson said: "The aim of the order is to help us keep the public safe. We will use it appropriately to search anyone in the area, utilising these powers to deter any further offences."
