Sinkhole prompts road closure on the Mendip Hills
A section of road on the Mendip Hills in Somerset could be closed for up to five days because of a sinkhole.
The hole was reported a couple of weeks ago and is located on the side of the B3134 Burrington Road near Cheddar.
Temporary lights have been put in place by Somerset Council to help drivers avoid the affected road.
The closure is due to begin on Tuesday 30 April and could continue for between three to five days, the council said.
Somerset Council said: "We are in the process of establishing the cause and we won’t know that until it’s fully excavated.
"A common cause is water penetration so it would be a simple case of filling the hole."
