Blue Islands to introduce flights to Newcastle

A Channel Islands airline has announced a "boost for the islands' air connectivity" with its introduction of new flights to Newcastle.

Blue Islands said flights from Guernsey and Jersey would take off from 3 May 2025 and would run throughout the summer season.

The airline said the non-stop flights would "transform" journeys between the Channel Islands and the north-east airport.

Newcastle Airport's aviation development manager, Chris Ion, said: "Guernsey is a new destination for next summer and is a fantastic addition to our growing route network at Newcastle Airport."

Ronnie Matheson, chief revenue officer at Blue Islands, said the "new schedule will make a real difference for the many thousands of customers wishing to fly between the north-east, Guernsey and Jersey, whom we're sure will welcome the choice of up to three direct flights each week".

"We're confident that this will become a firm favourite in our route network," he added.

The chief executive for the Ports of Jersey, Matt Thomas, said air connectivity played a "crucial role" in fostering the economic growth on the island.

"Therefore, it is encouraging to hear that Blue Islands is investing in increased connectivity to Newcastle for next summer and introducing a new region to their timetable."
