An urn containing the ashes of a woman has been handed into a police station by a landlord who discovered them while clearing out a house.

The ashes of Marlene Charlesworth, who died almost exactly 10 years ago, were given to North Yorkshire Police after the landlord was unable to trace the previous tenants of the property in Northallerton.

The force said officers had made a number of enquiries, including with the funeral home, but had been unable to find any family members.

Ms Charlesworth was cremated in Leeds on 23 October, 2014.

A statement said: “We are of course keeping it safe at the police station, but we really want to reunite Marlene's ashes with her family.

“If you can help us get in touch with them, please call 101.”
