Love seat lights up for Valentine's

A love heart seat has been installed in Sleaford town centre as part of a series of events around Valentines Day.

People can sit in the seat and take selfies, including in the evenings when it is lit up.

Nearby businesses are giving out heart-shaped tags on which people can write messages to someone they love and hang them on the seat.

The seat will be in Market Place until Monday 24 February.

The heart seat installation forms part of North Kesteven District Council's events programme, which is funded by the government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

It follows the WinterLight celebration in December, which officially welcomed people back into Market Place, following a £1m regeneration project.

However, some businesses have criticised the scheme, which has resulted in a loss of parking spaces in the town centre.

Richard Wright, the leader of North Kesteven District Council, said: "It's good to see the heart seat installation return to Sleaford, after it was first shown at the Riverside Precinct in 2023 and I look forward to seeing everyone enjoy it."

A Valentine-themed day of free activities will be held on Saturday.

It will include visits from the Queen of Hearts and Mad Hatter, caricature portrait drawings and performances from singer Chelsey Bamford.

Handley Monument, on Southgate, will be lit up in red during the weekend.

On 22 February, Market Place and St Denys' Church Hall will host a healthy heart event.

Wright said the events "promise to be enjoyable and provide even more reason to visit the town centre and make a day of it".
